Dollydagger model search – face of 2014

5 September 2013 6 Comments

After the success of its 2012 model competition, Brighton-based retro fashion label Dollydagger is this month launching a search for its face of 2014, with a 12 month modelling contract up for grabs!

Dollydagger model competition

In 2012, the pin-up brand’s model competition attracted 118 entries, which were whittled down to 8 finalists and one winner – Brighton girl Hannah Carrick, who had no previous modelling experience. “Classically pretty, down to earth, with a great personality and a size 14 figure, Hannah was picked because she represented the Dollydagger brand perfectly,” says owner Emma Ayers.

The 2013 competition is free to enter and open to everyone over 18. The first round of voting will take place on Facebook, with the public choosing eight finalists who will each win prizes worth £50. The overall winner, who will take home a prize package worth £200 from each shoot, will be chosen by a panel of four judges consisting Hannah Carrick, Emma Ayres, manager of Dollydagger’s Brighton boutique Simon Flamson and Dollydagger photographer Toby Amies.

“We’re looking for girls with personality, their own sense of style and who have what it takes to be a photographic model and are not afraid of the camera” Emma explains. “You don’t have to be a size 8 and 6ft tall to enter, at Dollydagger we like real girls, with warm personalities and a sense of fun”.

The competition opens on 23 September 2013. To enter, e-mail a full-length photograph and headshot – both taken within the last three months – along with a favourite photo of your choice and a written statement or video explaining why you want to win to modelsearch@dollydagger.co.uk.

Perhaps it would be nicer to say ‘we welcome models of any age or size’ rather than trotting out the ‘real women’ line again – your page says ‘you don’t have to be size 8 … we like real girls’ which implies that smaller people don’t qualify as part of your brand (or as actual women). Which is odd, given that your website travels in the other direction and calls a size 14 a ‘large’ …

    Hi Maria,

    Thanks for your comment.

The official launch is on the 23rd September, so the finer details have not been released. If you read the competition details, promotional material, terms and conditions of entry (which have not been released yet) and indeed those of last year’s competition we clearly state that we are looking for applicants of sizes 8 to 18, because that is the size range that our garments are produced in.

If you were familiar with the competition details and those of last year you will know that we also go to great lengths to encourage all women to enter. We have and never will discriminate against anyone because of their height, age or anything else for that matter.

What you are reading here is a press snapshot designed to give people a taste of what’s to come. If you would like the full picture you should keep an eye on our website, where the competition details will be announced on 23rd September.

The term ‘Large’ is simply the industry standard size equivalent for a UK 14. Every fashion retailer users it.

    Thanks,

    Emma

When you say “along with a favourite photo of your choice”, do you mean another photo of the applicant as well as the full length and head shot?
    Just to clarify!

Thanks! I’d love to enter :)
